Truly sustainable management of Nova Scotia's native Acadian Forest requires some thought. Forest conditions, markets, tax planning and many other factors influence which activities should be considered in any stand of trees. Even before those considerations, family forest owners need to understand and be able to clearly state their personal goals for their woodlands.
The Nova Scotia Woodlot Owners and Operators Association has a unique tool to help you start that process. With financial support from the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources, we created a free online goals assessment that will help you to think about what you want to have happen in your woodlands.
You can find the goals assessment on the home page of our website, nswooa.ca. Depending on your responses to a short series of questions, it takes 10-20 minutes to complete.
When you use the goals assessment, make sure to tell us what information and other resources you need to manage your land in the ways you think are important. If you give us a phone number or email address, we’ll follow up – at no cost – to learn more about what you need to achieve your goals.
If you have questions about your woodlands, call NSWOOA toll-free at 1-855-NS-WOODS (1-855-679-6637) or visit the Forest Management Resources section of our website.
